A traditional photocopier scans the documents you provide and prints them out. So if you already have a scanner and a printer, you could combine these elements to create an alternative to a traditional photocopier. You will need another element in the mix: the free iCopy software for Windows. So if you combine these three elements – a scanner, a printer and the free iCopy software – you get something that’s the equivalent of a traditional photocopier.

iCopy is available as a portable version and as an installer. Run the installer and a setup wizard will show up and guide you through the installation process. Said wizard will inform you that iCopy is free and open source software released under a GNU GPL. The setup wizard will also ask you to register iCopy to your scanner buttons. Here’s what happens if you choose to register iCopy to your scanner buttons: iCopy will automatically initiate the copy process when you press a button on your scanner.

Setting up iCopy will take little time and effort.
Figuring out iCopy’s interface will also take little time and effort. The interface is nice and simple; it conveniently presents all the settings and all the functions you can play with: choose the scanner you want to use; pick the printer you want to use; adjust the image brightness, contrast, resolution; set the paper size; set the number of copies; start the copy process; and more.

As mentioned above, iCopy is free and open source software released under a GNU GPL. This means that you can use the software for free for as long as you want; and if you want to, you can get the source code and play with it.

Mix together three elements – a scanner, a printer and the free iCopy software – and you get a nice alternative to a traditional photocopier. These three elements can nicely substitute a photocopier.

Pros

iCopy is available as an installer and as a portable version. Installing iCopy is an effortless task. iCopy has a simple interface that nicely presents all the settings and features that you can play with. iCopy, used alongside a scanner and a printer, can substitute a photocopier. iCopy is free and open source software.

Cons

None that I could think of.
